HOW TO KEEP YOUR HARD DRIVE DATA SAFE?

"External hard drive suddenly stopped working" the line itself is so scary that it reminds me of lots of data stored on the external hard drive. Really scary right? If so, take some care of your external hard drive and keep it away from failure. Here, I have listed some simple techniques that could help you extend the life of your external hard drive.

how to save hard drive data?
Caution: When the hard drive stops working, do not conclude that it has failed. First, check whether the USB cable is connected properly or not. If not, connect it properly.

Tip 1: Avoid Physical Damage

There are some physical factors that cause external hard drive failure, such as dust, fire, power fluctuations, etc. I know it is difficult to take care of these things, but you must be careful and take proper care of your unit to keep you from failure.

Tip 2: Monitor External Hard Drive Health

You can keep an eye on the health of your hard drive with SMART programs. If you encounter any problem, you can easily fix it right there, thus avoiding hard drive failure.

Tip 3: Don't Overload Your External Hard Drive

Never fill your hard drive with unwanted files. Eliminate junk files by reducing the wear and tear you get from being full. If you don't want to delete any files, press it to make room on your external HDD.

Tip 4: Handle With Care

Don't throw it away as it contains your important data. The external hard drive should be handled with more care. Make sure you have saved it in the correct place. When you take it from place to place, wrap it in a padded box.

Tip 5: Choose External Hard Drive Surface Carefully

The external hard drive should be placed on a flat, flat and non-slip surface. Any physical damage to the external hard drive can cause failure.

Tip 6: Don't Mess Around With the USB Connector

The USB cable must be carefully removed from the cable connector. Pulling it out of the connector abruptly may damage the connector. Also, check whether the USB connector is damaged or not. If it is damaged, do not use that USB connector.

Tip 7: Defragment the Drive Periodically

Defragment your hard drive from time to time to protect it from failure.

Tip 8: Prevent Excess Heat

Spinning for a long period of time will heat the hard drive. So, set spin to manage the heat issue on the external drive.

Tip 9:  Abruptly Stop Unplugging Your External Hard Drive

While removing the external hard drive from the computer, use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" option , rather than simply removing it. This will reduce the chances of external disk corruption that eventually results in its failure.

Additional Information:

When the external hard drive gets corrupted due to rough removal, the next time you do it, an error message may appear stating that “USB drive is not formatted; Do you want to format it now? “In such cases, you must format the drive to use it again. If you didn't have data backup then you can use data recovery software and restore data from formatted external hard drive in few minutes. Therefore, your external hard drive will be safe and your data as well.

Tip 10: Get Rid Of Bad Sectors

Hard failure happens due to excessive bad sectors. So, use Windows inbuilt tool to repair bad sectors and extend the life of external drive.

Remember!!!

I get a file corruption error message, files disappear from the drive, very low transfer speed, etc. If you encounter these signs, it means that your external drive is about to fail. So please backup your disk before it is too late.

But after all this precautions and steps your hard drives still gets corrupted, then you should use data recovery software for restoring for data from corrupted hard drive. Use the best data recovery software that will not affect your data while doing recovery.
